Every second Sunday in August, since 2012, Lupiac is being transformed for its festival "D'Artagnan chez d'Artagnan". An opportunity to celebrate its musketeer over a festive weekend.
Come and immerse yourself in a 17th-century Gers village on a fair day. Bring the whole family to rub shoulders with d'Artagnan and his musketeers, villagers, shopkeepers, craftsmen and strolling players. Make the most of the entertainment, and feast to your heart's content.

Every year, Lupiac is decked out in joyous colours for a Christmas market on the village square, under the arcades and around a traditional Christmas tree.
On Saturday 16 December 2023 from 15:00, there's a festive afternoon and evening based around a Christmas market of some 30 stalls under the arcades (gifts, crafts, local produce...).

Saturday 09 December at 11:00, presentation and signing of Julien Wilmart's book "Les Mousquetaires du roi - Une troupe d’élite au cœur du pouvoir" (The King's Musketeers - An elite troop at the heart of power). You can reserve your copy of the book until midday on Wednesday 29 November.
Some of you were lucky enough to attend Julien Wimart's excellent talk on 24 June in the Lupiac village hall: "Les Mousquetaires du roi (1622-1815): aux sources du mythe" (The King's Musketeers (1622-1815): the origins of the myth).
A historian and undisputed specialist in the Musketeers, Julien Wilmart has since published a landmark book: "Les Mousquetaires du roi - Une troupe d'élite au cœur du pouvoir" (The King's Musketeers - An elite troop at the heart of power), published 12 October 2023, 607 pages, 26€ - www.tallandier.com/livre/les-mousquetaires-du-roi).
The book is fascinating, dense but accessible.
The press has been talking about it, the book is a success and the publisher has just launched a first reprint, one month after its release.
Julien will be in the Gers on the week-end of 09 and 10 December.
He will be presenting his book in Lupiac on Saturday 09 December at 11:00, at the Taverne d'Artagnan.
Nothing formal. A relaxed atmosphere. A great opportunity to get to know the author and ask all the questions that come to mind.
The discussion will be followed by a book signing for those wishing to buy the book.
If you want to be sure of getting your copy, reserve it before noon on Wednesday 29 November. A small additional stock will be available for others, but there is no guarantee that there will be enough.
A copy of the book will be available for inspection from Saturday 25 November at the Taverne d'Artagnan.

When Alexandre Dumas wrote The Three Musketeers in 1844, he didn't just give life to d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, four cloak-and-dagger heroes among others: he created a veritable myth with universal appeal. The numerous film adaptations of the novel bear witness to this, as does the success of the latest film, Les Trois Mousquetaires - D'Artagnan, released last April.
Nowhere is the worldwide popularity of Dumas's masterpiece better illustrated than in comic strips. Hundreds of comic strip adaptations of The Three Musketeers have been produced in many countries, covering a wide range of genres: direct adaptations of the novel, parodies, children's versions, new adventures for the heroes, science fiction, etc.
"Les Trois Mousquetaires héros de BD" (The Three Musketeers, Comic Strip Heroes) is an exhibition about this extraordinary phenomenon. The first part features early French comics, with issues from the 1930s to the 1950s, as well as a series of original plates from L'homme au manteau rouge, a 1966 comic strip by Eugène Gire recounting the assassination of Constance Bonacieux and the execution of Milady. There's also a contemporary creation in the form of a panel by Fabrice Erre from the comic strip parodying The Three Musketeers, released at the same time as the film in April.
The second part of the exhibition deals with comics from all over the world. The old magazines, issues and albums on display come from a wide range of countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Norway. American comics are well represented, as are productions from Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. The popularity of the Three Musketeers in Asia is illustrated by recent Japanese manga, traditional Chinese comic strips, albums from Korea, the Philippines and India...
The 75 or so items on display come from the collection of journalist Patrick de Jacquelot. The entire collection of more than six hundred pieces is presented on the website "Alexandre Dumas, suites, plagiarisms, pastiches, tributes and comic strips" (www.pastichesdumas.com), which also reviews more than five hundred novels, plays and short stories inspired by Dumas.
Access to the exhibition is included in the cost of entry to the D'Artagnan museum. The museum is open 7 days a week from 17 June to 31 August, then closed on Mondays. Check opening times at www.lupiac.fr/museedartagnan

From December 22 to 29, 1673, six months after d'Artagnan's death in Maastricht, the after-death inventory of his possessions was drawn up by two notaries of the Châtelet de Paris in the house he rented at the corner of rue du Bac and quai Malaquais.
In addition to the furniture, tapestries, Dutch porcelain vases and carriages, there was a fabulous wardrobe.
On the second floor of the house, in an anteroom, there's a closet and a chest containing d'Artagnan's clothes and other personal effects.

Historian, doctor in art history, heritage curator, Odile Bordaz was successively curator of the museums of the Gers, administrator of historical monuments for the Center for National Monuments, notably the Saint-Denis Basilica, necropolis of the kings of France, and the Château de Vincennes.
Odile Bordaz has worked for more than 15 years on d'Artagnan, to whom she has dedicated a monumental biography. Since 2012, she has been kind enough to come to Lupiac every year and share with us the daily life of our musketeer and his comrades.
And this year, Odile Bordaz will sign her books on the village square from 13:30 to 14:30 (1.30 to 2.30pm)!

Fashion has had many facets throughout our history. Whether a tool of political propaganda or industrial development, a demonstration of social status or a simple accessory, fashion is far more complex than we imagine. Throughout D'Artagnan's life, fashion evolved from simple, elegant forms under Louis XIII, to exuberant "rhingrave" at the beginning of Louis XIV's reign, to the famous "costume à la française" that marked the history of fashion in France and Europe.
Come and discover the history and evolution of this complex and rich fashion experienced by our Gascon hero throughout the 17th century.

After a degree in Art History and Archaeology, Anne Couturier completed a Master's degree in Arts and Culture in Brittany. Wishing to reach out to the general public and offer a new approach to history through costume and antique dressmaking, she went to acquire new skills and obtain a professional certification in sewing.
No, it's not a joke, Anne is a seamstress by trade! After 7 years as a tailor and historical costume trainer, she now works on her own, tailoring for all types of garments and giving costume lessons at home.
A specialist in military costume, you can meet her during our festival at the camp of the historical re-enactment troupe « the Compagnie de Gascogne ».

A young provincial by the name of d'Artagnan arrives in Paris to live out his dream of joining the company of the King's Musketeers commanded by Mr de Tréville! As soon as he arrives in the capital, he meets three Musketeers: Athos, Porthos and Aramis, whom he befriends during a duel with the Cardinal's guards.
Together with his friends, he will have to redouble his vigilance to foil the traps set by two formidable characters in the Cardinal's pay: the perfidious Milady de Winter and the intractable Rochefort.
A story featuring intrigues, twists and turns, love, betrayal, treachery and of course many duels mixing humour, friendship, drama, adventure and panache!

During the reign of Louis XIV, the Chevalier de Lagardère watches helplessly as his friend, the Duke of Nevers, is assassinated. Before the Duke draws his last breath, he promises to raise his friend’s daughter Aurore as if she were his own child, and to find the assassin he has marked with a sword wound to the wrist. True to his motto: "If you don't come to Lagardère, Lagardère will come to you!"
For 20 years, Lagardère will be relentless in his pursuit to bring the truth to light, and to do so he will have to take on the guise of a very strange character...

Plusieurs dizaines de cavaliers s'élancent sur la Route Européenne d'Artagnan le long de l'itinéraire qui mène de Lupiac, village natal de dArtagnan, à Saint-de-Luz en passant par le village d'Artagnan et le Béarn de M. de Tréville, pays des Trois Mousquetaires, Athos, Porthos et Aramis. La Route permet aux randonneurs de se remettre dans l'ambiance des épopées de ces mousquetaires popularisées par Alexandre Dumas.
Cette randonnée traversera les communes de Lupiac, Castelnavet, Aignan, Pouydraguin, Tasque, Galiax, Préchac-sur-Adour et Jû-Belloc dans le Gers avant de passer dans les Hautes-Pyrénées. The Taverne d'Artagnan reopens Friday 9 June 2023 under a new management.
Taken over by Thibault Lagoutte, chef at the « La Baquère » Inn (which remains open) a few kilometres from Lupiac and an active member of the « Ronde des Mousquetaires », the flagship of Gers gastronomy, the "Taverne de d'Artagnan" offers you a generous and gourmet table representing the diversity of our region right in the heart of the village.
You'll be able to enjoy seasonal dishes made with local produce in a warm and reassuring "Tavern" atmosphere.

For about a century, Alexandre Dumas' masterpiece The Three Musketeers has been an inspiration to comic book writers all over the world: France, the United States, Italy and Great Britain in particular, but also Mexico, Japan and China. There have been direct adaptations, more or less faithful to the novel, but also many variations: imaginary sequels, parodies, transpositions into science fiction, versions for children, etc.
Very often, it is the character of d'Artagnan that these comic strips focus on, even if it means casting the other three musketeers into the shade. The "D'Artagnan, comic strip hero" exhibition highlights this phenomenon. Numerous old and recent issues bear witness to the omnipresence of the young Gascon, with various comic strip series bearing his name. Numerous original plates give an insight into the styles of various authors, from the contributors to the French issues of the 1950s to various American comic strips. The humorous versions are not forgotten, with original plates of an adventure of Tom and Jerry musketeers or of Dogtanian, our musketeer transformed into a dog!
A beautiful series of original plates from the 1960s allows us to relive the end of Dumas' novel with the judgment and execution of Milady. Various magazines show d'Artagnan travelling through time and even Superman, Batman and Robin as the 'three super musketeers'! The variety and fantasy of all these works prove it: the musketeers, and d'Artagnan in particular, have entered the universal collective imagination, achieving the status of a myth in their own right.
All of the exhibits come from the collection assembled over the past thirty years by the journalist Patrick de Jacquelot. The entire collection of more than five hundred pieces is presented on the website "Alexandre Dumas, suites, plagiarisms, pastiches, tributes and comic strips" (www.pastichesdumas.com), which also reviews more than four hundred novels, plays and short stories inspired by Dumas.

Alexandre Dumas turned Charles de Batz de Castelmore comte d'Artagnan, captain-lieutenant of the company of Musketeers in the service of his majesty Louis XIV, into a legendary hero through adventures well known to the public.
D'Artagnan, King's Musketeer, with the help of his three friends, will have to confront historical characters and fictitious ones, invented by Dumas, in order to foil plots aimed at destabilising the political balance.
A story combining historical reality and the myth established by Dumas, featuring intrigues, twists and turns, love, betrayal, treachery and of course many duels mixing humour, friendship, drama, adventure and panache!

We all know d'Artagnan. Or at least we think we know him.
But which d'Artagnan are we talking about?
The historical D'Artagnan, Charles de Batz de Castelmore, the child of Lupiac who went to Paris and became captain-lieutenant of the musketeers of King Louis XIV, esteemed by all?
The d'Artagnan of the pamphleteer Courtilz de Sandras, inspired by Charles de Batz, and who in turn would inspire Alexandre Dumas?
The d'Artagnan of Alexandre Dumas' Three Musketeers, the central character in this great novel of friendship, loyalty, bravery and panache?
Or the d'Artagnan of one of the many films, novels, manga or comic books inspired more or less freely by The Three Musketeers?
Which one is our "real" d'Artagnan?
Our two speakers:
Historian, doctor in art history, heritage curator, Odile Bordaz was successively curator of the museums of the Gers, administrator of historical monuments for the Center for National Monuments, notably the Saint-Denis Basilica, necropolis of the kings of France, and the Château de Vincennes.
Odile Bordaz has worked for more than 15 years on d'Artagnan, to whom she has dedicated a monumental biography. Since 2012, she has been kind enough to come to Lupiac every year and share with us the daily life of our musketeer and his fellow creatures.
Patrick de Jacquelot is a journalist, passionate about the work of Alexandre Dumas and all the plagiarisms, sequels and pastiches it has inspired.
For the Society of friends of Alexandre Dumas, of which he was administrator, he created a reference site: "Alexandre Dumas, two centuries of living literature" (www.dumaspere.com). He also created, and continues to enrich, the site "Alexandre Dumas, sequels, plagiarisms, pastiches, tributes and comic strips" (www.pastichesdumas.com), which endeavours to highlight Alexandre Dumas' immense literary posterity.
Patrick de Jacquelot is kind enough to come to Lupiac this year and to give this conference in collaboration with Odile Bordaz. Also to be discovered from 13 August at the Lupiac d'Artagnan Museum is his exhibition "D'Artagnan héros de BD" (D'Artagnan, comic strip hero) in which you can admire some superb pieces from his collection.

It will be remembered that Michel de Nostredame, known as Nostradamus, lived not far from here, in Agen, around the year of grace 1533, during the reign of our good king François I. He had two children there, presumed to have died of the plague in childhood.
It will be remembered that it is whispered in our farms and in our confessionals that these children could in fact have found refuge in Lupiac, settled and ensured their descent there.
It will be remembered that our friend Gaston, a pillar of our taverns and never stingy with his words between two sips of Armagnac, claims to be a direct descendant of Nostradamus and, like him, gifted in prophecies.
And then last week, in a trance, Gaston announced a new prophecy with vehemence and a radiant smile:
In four centuries, our valiant child of Lupiac, Charles de Batz de Castelmore, known as d'Artagnan, musketeer of our good king Louis XIV, will be known by all. His fame will extend beyond the mountains, the seas and the steppes. To months of riding at full gallop. To months of sailing on rivers and seas.
Many children will take him as a model. He will inspire writers and poets. It is said too that illustrated stories called "comic strips" will tell of his exploits.
Reality will have turned into a universal myth.

Cyrano de Bergerac, cadet of Gascony, is famous for his courage, his spirit, his arrogance, his nose and his tirades: "It’s a rock! ... A peak! ... A cape! What’s that, it’s a cape?..... It’s a peninsular!" or "at the envoi's end, I touch!"...
In love with his cousin Roxane, who prefers the young and handsome Christian de Neuvillette, Cyrano does not hesitate to challenge the Count de Guiche, also in love with Roxane. Despite his friend Le Bret who tries to reason with him, he will brave all dangers with zeal, elegance, wit and eloquence, until the final denouement.
Served by an extraordinary text, Cyrano draws us into the middle of an intrigue of the heart against the backdrop of a cloak-and-dagger epic, where the war of words and weapons, treachery and ambushes are intertwined.

Eponine, Paul and Jeannot are back on the road with their steam carriage and piano bike for a second season.
The Castagnac family, acrobats and apothecaries from father to son since 1310, have transformed their horse-drawn carriage into an extraordinary steam engine.
From skillful acts (with a pistol!) to divination and magic, the father of this strange family is convinced that all their talents are due to the consumption, even in moderation, of a miraculous water that comes out of this steam engine!

Every 2nd Saturday of December, Lupiac is decked out in a thousand colors for a Christmas market on the village square, around the arcades, the big fir tree, and wooden decorations.
On Saturday 11 December 2021 from 15:00 (3pm), a festive afternoon and evening around the traditional Christmas market.
More than 35 local producers and craftsmen under the arcades and around the fir tree and the statue of d'Artagnan. Santa Claus will lend himself to photo sessions, distribute free candy and embark in his sleigh the little children who have offered him a drawing.

To celebrate Saint Cecilia, Patronness Saint of musicians, the Harmonie Lupiacoise invites you to its traditional concert on Saturday 20 November at 2030 (8.30pm) in the Lupiac village hall (entrance under the arcades on the village square).
In the first part will be the brass instruments of the "Quintette 404" from Bordeaux, winner of the international competition of Lège-Cap Ferret in chamber music.
The second part will be performed by the Harmonie Lupiacoise conducted by Isabelle Fourquet.

2020 - in place of the Festival, the market fair!
Summer 2020, a very unusual summer of entertainment for our village of Lupiac. Our festival cancelled, make way for d'Artagnan's fair. Members of the D'Artagnan chez d'Artagnan association have mobilised to maintain a festive event adapted to the ongoing health crisis, in a very airy visiting space, adapted to the need for social distancing.
